BEAR SKI

13 - 23 April 2004

UPDATE ON THE BEAR SKI EXPERIENCE COMING SOON!

In the meantime, while you're waiting with growing anticipation for the latest update, check out these sites for some pictures from our trip...

Bear Ski:  9 day's solo skiing in Hammastunturi area (south of Inari in norther Lapland)

Itinery

Thurs 8th        Gear packing, repairing and checking
Tues 13th       Arrive Kuru 0800.  Check gear, 1200 start driving.
Wed 14th       0200 start skiing in the forest (very early morning is the best
time for skiing - the snow is then hard)
14th-21st       In the forest, solo skiing
Thurs 22nd    Meet at Gathering Point 1000.  Hit the road and arrive in
                     Rovaniemi 1700.
Fri 23rd        0600 leave Rovaniemi.  2000 arrive Kuru.

Task:
To plan your own route and ski along it for 9 days.  Half the group will start from Kuttura and ski to Pokka, and the rest will ski the other way.
We have 2 check point days - Saturday 17th and Tuesday 20th - if we do not arrive in these check points the planning group will begin to back track along our route and see what the problem is (hopefully its not that you aren't on the route anymore!).

Weather:
Spring has well and truely already hit Lapland.  In some previous years, student have been on an expedition more like Bear Swim, where the snow is melting fast and making the Hammasunturi very wet.  This year we are looking at having quite good snow coverage and temperatures -6 to +2 degrees celcius.
